Platform Turnaround & Agile Operations Scaling: Helix Systems Design

Redefining how design & development collaborate while creating the new MyGov platform – and building an accessible Design System to power it.

One of Fortune’s Top 3 Consulting firms had a problem: Their platform & products built for Health and Human Services wasn’t actually serving humans all that well. So we completely rebuilt it from the ground-up.

This was a rare opportunity to transform an organization’s way of working with a healthy infusion of Human Centered Design. We worked arm-in-arm with stakeholders to establish a new approach to rapid product design and development, deeply integrating design into the Agile development process.

Together we created the new MyGov platform, now live in Texas and Oklahoma as of 2025, and our design approach was rooted in 5 guiding principles:

I’m so proud of the work my team accomplished in partnership with this client, inventing a new design-driven agile process while creating the new MyGov platform powered by an accessible Design System. Together, we re-imagined how government serves its citizens in the modern digital era.

👥 Worked side-by-side with cross-functional leaders to iteratively develop an experimental methodology tightly integrating human-centered design with agile development practices.

🧬 Collaboratively created the Helix Design System that would support rapid development of an entirely new white-label product, which we validated with real users along the way.

💫 Scaled the design team from 2 to 6 designers, hired and trained a new Experience Director to run the lab, and exited leaving a successful operation in very capable hands.
